7 Flavors of Pain

by James R. Stoup Sep 12, 2005

Ok, according to this article Vista will be coming in 7 flavors. Isn’t that special? Good old MS, doing everything they can to squeeze a few more nickels out of you. You don’t think this new choice of 7 different types of pain will confuse customers do you? Or, heaven forbid, that there would be some incompatibility issues between all of these wonderful products? Hum, can’t wait for the chaos to begin.

  • I don’t think there will be incompabilities between editions, nothing seems to suggest that. (except the difference between 32bit and 64bit versions)

The “professional” or “business” lineup does seem a bit confusing, but the “home” lineup is pretty clear-cut.

I’m itching to see the Ultimate edition though, but it’ll probably cost a fortune; MS products always do. I’ll have to see if my university offers any type of discount when those are released… if i’m still in university by the time it’s release =P

  • I agree that there will not incompatibility issues. I have no idae why they would need 7 different versions though. Seems like another bad M$ move to me…

  • At least this “Microsoft sucks at everything” article is only a paragraph long.  Come to think of it, James, you could probably save yourself some time and just reduce all of your articles to that one sentence.

  • Beeb,

    Couple things.

I didn’t say that Microsoft sucks at everything, it was, however, implied.

Do you really think this ‘7 different versions of the same operating system’ thing is really a good idea?

If I were to boil my articles down to only one sentance then wouldn’t that mean you would only have, like, 8 letters with which to insult me? I guess you could use short hand, or maybe pick a favorite curse word. . .

As always broxie you make me smile. Thanks for the memories.

  • Shouldnt be anymore confusing than XP. What we have now is XP Home (reduced Media Edition), XP Home, XP Pro, XP Pro 64, XP MCE, XP Tablet, and XP Embedded. We got 7 there, and no doubt I probably missed some out. Everyone seems to think of XP Home and Pro, but theres alot of differing flavors already out. The biggest problem with Vista is its stupid name raspberry

  • “I’ve told you before ‘brox quit misusing quotation marks!”

You know, I don’t come here very often (I think I’ve only posted 4 comments here), but even in such a long span, I see MacGlee accusing Beeb of misusing quotation marks. MacGlee, you do realize that quotation marks can be used for purposes other than quotation, right? They are very often used to emphasize a phrase (especially places like here when you can’t usee boldface or italics), denote ironic use (“Air Quotes” as you will), or to set off a title of a story (again, especially if you can’t use italics or underline). I figured it was obvious Beeb was using the quotes in the first manner, as emphasis—though you can make an argument he was using it in the manner of a fictional title of a fictional class of articles: “Microsoft Sucks at Everything”.
