Yahoo! acquires Konfabulator!
Well! There you go, eh! Not more than two weeks ago I suggested on this site that Microsoft could consider buying Konfabulator. Yahoo has beaten them to the punch. Congratulations to Arlo and Perri.
The Yahoo! deal “gives us whole new buckets of content to grab stuff from”, Rose said.
What does it mean for the Mac version of K? Time will tell, but since Yahoo! will now be giving it away free and with the existence of Dashboard, you do wonder if it will be worth their while to continue developing an OS X version.
What do you think?

I think Yahoo is finally starting to take the Mac Market seriously, with the Firefox toolbar and now with Konfabulator. I think they chose it rather than other specifically because of the cross-platform nature of it. I think Yahoo is aware that among consumers (not businesses,) Apple has a much larger market share than 3% - and these Yahoo services are designed to appeal to the consumer, not business. With the continuing popularity of the Mac, this was a conscious decision and I doubt you will see Mac support dropped.
Meh, Yahoo! has been in a buy and bury mode for 5 years now. Their recruiters work overtime to fill design positions, many never stay much longer than their initial stock vesting period.
The Konfabulator founders got a heck of a payday, well worth their hard work. I think they are are great example of where most small software developers will head: true cross platform support.
But, I am sure they will move on after a stint at Yahoo! who has already become the Disney of the Internet.
