Zune Update!

So you’re wondering how the Zune is selling? No problem AM is here for you! At this moment (1:47 EST) the Zune is the #15 best seller at Amazon in electronics. Sounds groovy right? Well it does until you realize that the Zune is in line behind 6 iPods, a flash drive, 3 cameras and, most tellingly, the SanDisk SDMX4-2048 Sansa e250 2 GB MP3 Player with SD Expansion Slot. Which is troublesome to even say.

Earlier I had hands on with the Zune and found it to be okay. I liked the interface, the navigation not so much and the thing felt cheaper than an iPod. For the same price there is no comparison, for 50 bucks less? Well, then Microsoft might have something.

  • It’s 8th in the MP3 player section, behind 6 iPods (3 models, but the different colored Nano’s are different products), but it’s beating out the green, silver, and blue Nanos; the white 5.5gen iPod; as well as the 1st gen Nanos and original iPod videos.  I guess it’s doing all right…

  • Anyone notice that the 30GB iPod is actually priced at $233 on Amazon?  Compared to $249 for the Zune.

    The Zune is not an easy choice at the same price as the iPod.  It’s at a severe disadvantage when priced $17 MORE than the iPod.

  • It is safe to say that initial sales of the Zune are not good, and its damage to iPod sales inconsequential. There are eight models of the iPod currently outselling the Zunes. Zune is off the amazon.com top 25 list. The Zune is not even selling as well as the iPod shuffle costing $27 more from amazon.com than from the apple store! If the Zune is loosing in sales against an over priced product in its first week, it is safe to say it is suffering from bad sales.

  • Ok in electronics it is off the top 25. In mp3 players black zune is at 13 but has 10 iPods in front of it, Brown Zune is at 25 but with 6 iPods between black and brown, and the white Zune is nowhere to be seen.

    How much of that GB I can use to store my files? None! There goes the Zune from this side of the fence.

    And an unofficial podcasting app is good (if it works) but should’ve been done by MS themselves. What a pity they were too busy crafting the squirting feature that doesn’t work too well anyways.
