Using a points system makes it easier when you use that account for more than just the zune. Like xbox live, left over points from live can be used to purchase music on zune. One thing you are to stupid to see though is the potential of getting free music with zune because you are too wrapped up in which company is better. Buy the 15$ a month subscription through zune and get a DRM remover / mp3 converter like tunebite and for 15$ dollars a month you could get tons more music than you could ever get from itunes for the same price.
