  • Whilst the MacBook Pro's intended audience is definitely the professional market, to expect that a future Intel iBook is a better comparison against the Dell I have a hard time swallowing. If rumours are the be believed, the Intel iBook is supposed to be shipping with the Core Solo processor whilst the Dell, like MacBook Pro, ships with the Core Duo. It is therefore appropriate to compare MacBook Pro and the Dell system.
  • I have to say there are a few things about Mac OS X that I do find annoying coming from a predominantly Windows environment, biggest of all is the way the HOME and END keys are implemented, they do not work in the same way, out of the box (just in case a mod does exist), as they do within the Windows environment. I find the way Windows handles these keys to be more productive/useful. I have to agree with you about the way Finder lists files & folders, I really do prefer Windows in this instance listing folders first and then the files. That being said I think in general Mac OS X is more consistent in terms of interface than Windows as generally Save dialogs appear consistent across most applications, whereas when you look at Win XP it is very inconsistent between applications and even within explorer with its task pane. For the love of god I hope Windows Vista allows us to customise our file dialog in the same way that Mac OS X does, how much more useful would it be to specify a list of resources on the left, would save me a few clicks. A big pet peeve with Windows XP is its Start menu. Microsoft really do need to find another way of doing this, it often takes forever to render at times, especially if like me you have a LOT of applications installed. I would like them to look at something like application/task clusters eg GAMES, PRODUCTIVITY, CREATIVE and the like. When applications are installed they specify the cluster(s) this application belongs to and Windows would assemble them into appropriate lists. I think both Mac OS X and Windows Vista have a lot to learn from one another.
